About this excursion
Join us for an exciting day out at Kincumba Mountain, where students use science to investigate their local environment! Students have the opportunity to explore diverse ecosystems and uncover the fascinating relationships between plants, animals, and their habitats.
This program aims to provide students with an experience that will encourage ongoing appreciation of wildlife and a desire to act for its conservation. Get ready for a day filled with discovery, adventure, and inspiration as we connect with nature and learn the importance of protecting our planet!
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
We are learning to:
collect data about living things
describe the changes in living things
We can:
describe changes in animals as they go through their life cycle
collect data on living things in a local habitat and represent it using a graph
Learning Experiences
Bird Investigation
An exploration of different types of birds, their features and their nests at Kincumba Mountain. They will use the design process to make their own bird nest and consider the impacts of introduced bird species on native species
Invertebrate Investigation
Students will become young scientists as they dig, explore, and discover the fascinating world of invertebrates. They will use scientific equipment to conduct leaf litter digs and collect and record a variety of invertebrates. Once they have collected their data, students will create a whole-class graph, visually showcasing the diversity of invertebrates found and look at some life cycles.
Tree Investigation
Students become scientists practicing observation, by identifying differences in tree species. They will collect different leaves, seeds and bark and make a natural forest scene artwork
Forest Discovery Walk
The bushwalk provides the students with an opportunity to explore Kincumba Mountain. They will be able to use their senses in fun activities that will allow them to observe the features of a forest and the needs of plants and animals. They will also learn some Aboriginal uses of plants.
