Stage 2 Science & Technology - Physical & Living Systems Incursion (2hr session or whole day incursion)
About this incursion
Join us for an exciting Stage 2 science incursion as we dive into a fascinating investigation into our living world! This hands-on adventure will take students on a journey within their school grounds where they will discover the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere and uncover how these systems interact to support life.
Students will have the opportunity to identify and observe both living and non-living things in a variety of habitats, and get a close-up look at invertebrates.
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
We are learning to:
- describe Earth’s systems
- describe living and non-living things in a habitat
We can:
- describe how the needs of living things are provided by provided by the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere
Learning Experiences
Students will explore the different systems that make up their school environment and understand how the needs of all living things rely on these interconnected systems.
They will also predict, discover and identify what types of invertebrates are living at their school. They will use scientific equipment to conduct the leaf litter dig and collect and record a variety of invertebrates. The data is collated using tallies and identification charts then analysed and interpreted using picture and column graphs.
Important information
Science and Technology K-6 (2024)
Physical and living systems depend on energy
A student:
❀ ST2-SCI-01 uses information to investigate the solar system and the effects of energy on living, physical and geological systems
❀ ST2-PQU-01 poses questions to create fair tests that investigate the effects of energy on living things and physical systems
❀ ST2-DAT-01 uses and interprets data to describe patterns and relationships
Please let us know if you are working on an alternate syllabus version so we can adapt accordingly.
