Stage 4 Geography - Landscapes and Landforms

About this excursion

The Geography Inquiry Process will be used to investigate the diverse features and characteristics of a forest and coastal landscape.

Students will consider the different values of the landscapes and landforms, explore the changing landscape and investigate ways people, including Aboriginal and Torres Islander Peoples, manage and protect landscapes.

Learning Experiences

Geographical Tools
Students will use a variety of geographical tools to acquire, process and communicate geographical information such as maps, field sketches and fieldwork instruments e.g. anemometers and light meters.
Maitland Bay Information Centre (Bouddi National Park only)
Students visit the Maitland Bay Information Centre to discuss the difference between a landscape and landform, the variety of reasons why the National Park is valued and how it is sustainably managed. They will also have the opportunity to view the National Park display.
Bushwalk

During the bushwalk students will:

  • Observe distinct landscapes and landforms, and undertake a field sketch of a landscape
  • Study geomorphic processes that create and shape the landscapes, such as weathering and erosion
  • Discover ways how Aboriginal Peoples’ care for Country
  • Learn about marine reserves and reserve management issues
  • Compare abiotic features from 2 different landscapes

Norah Head

(Wyrrabalong National Park only)

Students will investigate and sketch the geological features of the Norah Head Rock Platform.
