Stage 4 Geography - Landscapes and Landforms
About this excursion
The Geography Inquiry Process will be used to investigate the diverse features and characteristics of a forest and coastal landscape.
Students will consider the different values of the landscapes and landforms, explore the changing landscape and investigate ways people, including Aboriginal and Torres Islander Peoples, manage and protect landscapes.
Learning Intentions and Success Criteria
We are learning to:
- identify geomorphic processes that create landscapes and shape landforms.
- identify different ways people value landscapes and landforms.
- identify ways to manage and protect landscapes and landforms, including methods used to care for Country.
- understand geomorphic hazards, including the causes, impacts, the responses and the management of a selected hazard.
We can:
- distinguish between landscapes and landforms by identifying and describing a coastal example.
- describe the importance of this place to different groups of people.
- name some management practices for this area and how it protects the landscape.
- collect data to be able to describe and explain the diversity in different landscapes.
- identify locations where both environmental and human processes have transformed landscapes and landforms.
- identify how Aboriginal Peoples’ care for Country.
- create an accurate field sketch of landscape, labelling key features.
- use BOLTSS to interpret a map and understand contour lines.
Learning Experiences
During the bushwalk students will:
- Observe distinct landscapes and landforms, and undertake a field sketch of a landscape
- Study geomorphic processes that create and shape the landscapes, such as weathering and erosion
- Discover ways how Aboriginal Peoples’ care for Country
- Learn about marine reserves and reserve management issues
- Compare abiotic features from 2 different landscapes
