About this excursion

Gosford Central Business District is an area undergoing significant change. During this excursion students will investigate proposed changes to the area and assess liveability at three sites; Gosford station, Kibble Park and the waterfront/leagues club park.

Key Questions:

  1. Why do people’s perceptions of the liveability of places vary?
  2. How does urbanisation change environments and places?
  3. What strategies are used to manage environmental change in urban places to enhance sustainability?
  4. What is the role of governments, non-government organisations, communities and individuals in enhancing liveability?

Geographical Tools
Students will use a variety of geographical tools to acquire, process and communicate geographical information such as maps and fieldwork instruments e.g. anemometers and light meters
Activities

During the day students will walk from Gosford Waterfront Reserve to Gosford Station. Enroute they will;

  • construct and use a liveability index to assess areas within the study site.
  • discuss the role of local and state government in planning for Gosford.
  • assess proposed changes to Gosford CBD and view an artists’ impression of changes.
  • conduct a survey of types of businesses and services in Mann St.
  • compare abiotic features across 3 different sites.
  • view historical photos and discuss change over time
