Our environmental centre offers a number of programs for Stage 3 students to learn about and understand their natural environment.
Leadership
Program Overview
The Student Leadership program provides an opportunity for students to learn leadership skills through a range of activities designed to encourage teamwork, communication, problem solving and leadership. The day can be run at Kincumba Mountain or Avoca Lagoon depending on whether your schools prefer to do kayaking or a bushwalk as the optional activity.
Bushwalk- Students will go on a bushwalk in Kincumba Mountain Reserve to explore the forest environment and view a unique Aboriginal site.
Kayak- Aquafun Avoca will provide kayaks and run team games such as a treasure hunt for rubber ducks hidden on the lagoon and team races. This option costs an extra $14 per student (minimum 20 students).

Fire-Ed Up! - Stage 3 Geography / Science
Program Overview
Central Coast Council along with Rumbalara Environmental Education Centre, and the Central Coast Academy of STEM excellence came together to plan how we could reduce anxiety and improve resilience in our youngest residents after bushfire.
The aim was to:
· Develop a 10 week program to build preparedness, resilience and to reduce anxiety through increased fire knowledge.
· Incorporate the STEM process to the unit, enabling children to build knowledge and resilience all while fulfilling several syllabus outcomes.
Specifically, Stage 3 Science and Technology (Earth and Space) and Stage 3 Geography (Factors that Shape Places) curriculum.
Participating schools will be provided with a professional learning session to assist with the running of the program and there will also be ongoing support. All equipment required to run the practical activities will be loaned to the school.
Optional incursion - Rumbalara staff would be happy to organise an incursion at your school to run the practical activities (if preferred).
Optional excursion – In partnership with Central Coast Council and the Rural Fire Service, Rumbalara can run a fun excursion with participating schools at Kincumba Mountain (or similar). Throughout the day, students will participate in practical Fire-Ed Up activities, as well as spending time with volunteers from the Rural Fire Service and their fire trucks and equipment.

Factors that shape places: Stage 3 Geography
Program Overview
The geography inquiry process will be used to investigate how people have changed the natural environment at Katandra Reserve. Different vegetation types will be observed on a bushwalk that leads to a rainforest. Students will formulate ideas for managing the reserve in the future.

Bright Sparks incursion - Stage 3 Science
Program Overview
When the Bright Sparks energy trailer comes to your school, your students will go on a journey through the scientific discoveries that sparked the industrial revolution and our current dependence on fossil fuels.
Student scientisits will use a variety of resources and materials to investigate, design and measure the performance of renewable and energy saving systems such as solar panels, batteries, wind turbines, solar thermal power and insulation, as they aim to discover clean energy solutions for a sustainable furure.
This is a 2 hour session for a maximum of 30 students.

Nature documentary: Stage 2 and 3 English/Science
Program overview
Get ready to become the next David Attenborough. Nature documentary is an amazing literacy-focused program that introduces students to documentary making using iPads (provided by Rumbalara).
Students collaborate as filmmakers and become cinematographers, presenters and directors to create their own documentary focusing on the biodiversity of living things found in their school grounds or local environment.
