High-Potential Gifted Education Program
Environmental Maths Day
Join us for the High Potential & Gifted Education (HPGE) Environmental Maths Day!
The program covers elements of the creative, intellectual and social-emotional domains.
Rumbalara EEC teachers will come to your school as an incursion to encourage students who have an interest in Maths and would benefit from developing their environmental maths skills at a high level.
The identified students will then be invited to participate in in a second full day environmental maths workshop with a specialised maths teacher and environmental scientist at Bateau Bay Beach.
Program for an incursion
Use your maths skills to explore nature within your school environment!
Students will work in small groups to move through a variety of activities located around the school grounds.
This session will involve hands-on teamwork activities involving “maths in the environment”.

- measure circumference of trees and estimate heights - in order to calculate carbon stored by trees (challenge / difficult)
- become a water scientist by measuring water quality from a local creek or stream
- use navigation skills and measuremet to construct a polygon.
Cost: $5 per student
